Help:What is the origin of the Anopheles M and S form DNA
From VectorBase Help System
M (Mali-NIH)-- Collected in a village near Niono, Mali in June 2005 by Tovi Lehmann; single ovipositions were set up in the insectary at NIH. Established by combining ca. 80 isofemale families that were molecularly identified as A. gambiae M molecular form. Karyotyping by Olga Grushko at the University of Notre Dame revealed this colony to be homokaryotypic 2Rbc/bc and 2La/a. This colony is the source of DNA for the A. gambiae M form genome sequencing project supported by NHGRI. NOTE: DNA sent for preparation of plasmid libraries was from adult males (XY). DNA used for construction of fosmid and BAC libraries was from pupae of mixed sexes.
S (Pimperena)-- Collected in Pimperena, Mali in November 2005 by Mamadou Coulibaly; single ovipositions were set up in the insectary at Notre Dame. Established by combining ca. 5 isofemale families that were molecularly identified as A. gambiae S molecular form. Karyotyping by Olga Grushko revealed this colony to be homokaryotypic 2Rb/b and heterokaryotypic 2La/+. This colony is the source of DNA for the A. gambiae S form genome sequencing project supported by NHGRI. NOTE: DNA sent for preparation of small (3-4kb) and medium (10-12kb) plasmid libraries as well as fosmid library was from adult males (XY). DNA used for construction of BAC libraries was from pupae of mixed sexes.
